Why You Should Eat an Orange and Foster Kittens
Where Fleur is reminded to eat better, use that Pomodoro method, and fosters kittens
Confession time: I don’t always have the healthiest eating habits. I often forget to eat or drink water, and if I do eat, I like my cookies, chips and other stuff with zero nutritional value (like cake). I’ve been working hard to be better. And I feel like a doofus every time I eat an orange now, because I feel SO MUCH BETTER afterward. Duh, nutrition.
Who knew? Well, I did, of course… You’d think I’d be smarter at my age.
It helps if you put your orange in a pretty bowl.
Writing is much the same way. My good friend Jenny shared recently that she wrote more (in those pomodoro short bursts I wrote about here) and how she felt better the whole rest of the day. It was a good reminder for me as well. Writing makes me happy. Being creative in general does—much like an orange for the brain.
I’m going to remember that this coming week, as I’m gaining momentum on my WWII novel-in-progress. Time to bust out the pomodoro method and add those words…
What I’m Working On
That WWII novel is coming along again, though the scenes are rough on the spirit. I think I need to write a book about Floof or something…
I do hope to get some more done on it. I wrote about 6k words these past few weeks and aim another 3k in the week ahead. It was my slow and steady wins the race project, and it’s living up to the rep.
And I even read my non-fiction project and marked it up for revision, while waiting at the dentist. Extra points to me for all this responsible behavior.
Where I’m Going
Well, we had a windstorm, so I’m doing all the fix-it and cleanup stuff in my yard. It’s okay though. I’m also making sure I pick up plenty of fruits and veggies this week. Time to feed the soul.
The state of my fence, sadly…
I’m planting a tree and sowing seeds as well, with hopes of turning my backyard into a wildlife habitat.
On the author side, I’m posting over at the SCBWI blog on Thursdays this month, so at least I’m going somewhere in the virtual sense.
What I’m Reading
I’m doing tons of WWII research, and part of it is reading novels set during that time. The Girl in the Blue Coat is on my e-reader for the week. I’d read it years ago, but revisiting it now. So far, a suspenseful read.
Your Weekly Floof Kittens
Okay, so not to worry: Floof is still very busy Floofing it up around here. She’s happy that I open the windows so she can continue to keep an eye on the neighborhood.
Though in true catlady fashion, I was a sucker and volunteered to foster some kittens for my local Humane Society. They were kinda drowning in them, given that it’s spring, so I volunteered to take one for the team and host three babies (calico kitten #3 is camera shy).

The goal is to get them to 8 weeks and 2 pounds. Given that they’re barely a pound, we have some work to do to fatten these babies up. I’m on the case. You know, for the team…
And so far, Floof is very whatever about the whole thing. As long as they stay in their kitten room.
I'm so glad you're willing to sacrifice and take one for the team. What a trial and a burden 😉
And I love seeing the process of how this book is coming along! My current WIP is VERY much the slow kind so your pace actually seems really solid to me!
