When You Want to Take a Hike
Where Fleur fights the long Covid battle and wants to go outside already. Also, 3 interesting things...
I caught Covid sometime mid-December, and I’ve been sick until… Well, I’m still coughing and complaining, but the worst is behind me now. It was a long battle, and Covid got all the points.
I did get a good amount of writing done from my comfy spot in bed, but I had to forego hiking for a while, since it’s just too cold here in Colorado. But today, I hope to take my first hike of 2024. Maybe this whole new year’s resolution to be healthier will actually go somewhere. I spend entirely too much time sitting…
Here’s a picture from a walk I did in 2023.
What Fleur is Writing
I’m trucking along on my WWII novel, still slow and steady at about 3K words a week. I aim for 500 words a day, 6 days a week. This puts me at 9K words right now and roughly at the end of sequence two (or Act I, for you theater people).
I’m on track to finish a rough draft by the end of April at this rate, though I hope to have a few sprints in the coming weeks that will help me finish earlier.
I’ve also been writing that non-fiction novel about the writing craft; clocked about 2K words on that this week.
How are you? Are you writing too?
Three Interesting Things
I spent some time this past week listening to webinars, which was inspiring. I did miss a few too—Zoom burnout is a real thing, alas. That said, this coming week brings more webinar joy, so I may just have to get over myself.
Have you signed up for author Sarah Allen’s newsletter yet…? She’s a fellow author and is very inspiring. Plus when you sign up, you get lots of helpful tips as a kidlit author. Go sign up here.
There’s a whole webinar extravaganza called Hey Creator, which is (you guessed it) for creators. No idea what it’ll bring, but it’s free which we love, of course. Hat tip to Tim Grahl who wrote a nifty book called Your First 1,000 Copies, who is a presenter at the online shindig. You can sign up here.
Jane Friedman talks about author branding today (!) during this free webinar. We like Jane, she knows lots about the author biz. Sign up here.
I’ll let you know how my hike goes today. The more I write, the more I realize I sit on my butt way too much.
How are you staying active this January?
Your Weekly Floof
Floof sees no need to put those clean sheets on the bed…
My pet peeve is when illness cuts into the routine you set up for writing. I hadn't had a cold/cough in 2 years until last week, and that knocked me for a loop. Glad you're on the mend enough to get out for a hike. The marketing you linked to was excellent for PB and MG writers, but I find that the marketing to YA writers is different. Good stuff, though!
Oh my goodness thank you!!! This made my day!
