Happiness Starts with the Letter P
Where Fleur refills the well and eats things other than cake.
Welcome to March! I know, you really didn’t need me to remind me of what month it is on a calendar.
Although I do kinda feel like February flew by. Here in Colorado, we don’t dare act like spring is around the corner just yet, even if it’s nice and warm right now. A few years ago, we had snow in June. Hold your horses, fellow gardeners.
Still, March seems like a good month to catch my breath. I actually managed to do what I set out to do: write at least 3k words every week since the beginning of 2024. I just cracked 30k words yesterday and stumbled into Act III of the story (believe it or not: the chapter I wrote yesterday actually involves cake), which feels like I’m in the home stretch, at least for this early skeleton of a novel draft.
And yet.
I feel like I need to take a day off—today, in fact. Sunday, which should probably resemble a day of rest anyway. One day, because I don’t want to lose momentum on this new book when I’m this close.
Today, I’m spending the morning outside—a hike nearby. Then in the afternoon, I’m grabbing coffee and/or pizza with my good friends.
Pizza
Pie
Paths (hiking)
Plants
Pottering (this would be me doing DIY-type jobs around the house).
I realized that I refill the creative well by doing things (or eating, as I am me after all) that start with the letter P.
How about you? What do you do when you feel like you’re running out of juice?
Not all good things start with the letter P. Like cake.
These are my Plants, which are hanging from the ceiling because Floof thinks they’re a snack…
What I’m Writing
Aside from my WWII Amsterdam book, I’m tinkering with some non-fiction writing craft books. I also put a spit-shine on my YA mystery this past week. I’ll be happy to send that one off to college. It’s starting to backtalk and leave dishes everywhere…
Where I’m Going
March is sprinkled with virtual visits, but mostly quiet which gives me the time to catch up before busy April gets here. If you want to say howdy in person, here’s where I’ll be:
Apr. 13: Green Valley Ranch Book Festival, Denver, CO
Apr. 16-19: Texas Library Association Conference, San Antonio, TX
Apr. 26-28: Pikes Peak Writers Conference, Colorado Springs, CO
Happiness is Mail
For a last refilling of the well word that starts with the letter P: Post! I love getting kid fanmail, and a lovely librarian friend here in Colorado sent me a big envelope full after I did a World Read Aloud Day visit. Librarian should start with a letter P…
Your weekly Floof
We have a puppy in the house who likes to chase and bite things at the moment, so Floof likes to hide in a basket on top of the fridge. We all need a fridge basket, right?
