July means it’s about to get hot. And I want none of it—I’m more of a spring and fall kinda person. But I take it as a good opportunity to read, relax (before the launch of Daybreak on Raven Island in August), and pretend I’m still a kid, even if it’s just at heart.
Also, I’m still trying to get my outdoors time in. I love to hike and garden. We just planted some new apple and plum trees after losing half our trees to a nasty frost; please send good growing vibes my way…

Good News for Daybreak on Raven Island
My fellow authors know: it’s hard to wait for those first reviews… You wonder if you wrote a good book, if kids and those grown-up reviewers will like it or if you should just change your name and move to a different country. The good news: Daybreak on Raven Island got a very nice review from Kirkus, who are notoriously… Cranky, sometimes.
You can see in the image above what they said. Phew, it's a relief. I may have eaten some cake when I saw this review; I won't lie about that...
